Digestive Health
Health begins with optimal digestion and a balanced flora
Poor Digestion

Heartburn? Bloating? Burping, Gas? Irritable Bowel? Food Sensitivities?
Digestive distress is so common that almost everyone experiences it at one time or another but many people experience symptoms daily. High levels of stress, poor eating habits, lack of healthy bacteria in the GI tract can all contribute. At Crossing Back to Health, we focus on functional medicine that can help treat ailments generally ignored by traditional medicine.
Diarrhea
Loose watery stools more than 3 times a day.
People of all ages get diarrhea. Most people get diarrhea occasionally and get over it quickly and without any intervention. Other times it is more chronic and is a reflection of an underlying unresolved stress.
Constipation
This is a pain in the buttocks!

Bowel habits vary for each person but when you have trouble passing stool, or have infrequent stools (less than 3 per week), or pain with bowel movements, you are likely constipated. People tend to feel bloated, sluggish and lack optimal energy when they are constipated.
Reflux
The Chinese call it “rebellious qi”
Heartburn or Acid Reflux is that burning you feel in your chest when stomach acid goes up instead of down as it should – that’s the rebellious part. It can be intermittent or can become chronic. It can even lead to changes in the esophagus that predispose people to cancer of the esophagus.
Irritable Bowel
We can help you.
Irritable Bowel Syndrome or “IBS” is recurrent diarrhea lasting more than 3 months that tends to have a sudden onset with lower abdomen cramping and bloating followed by sudden watery diarrhea. It can be very embarrassing and uncomfortable. The cause is unknown but there are aggravating factors that can be identified.

Seasonal Allergies
Get a breath of fresh air
The symptoms of pollen allergies are so annoying! Itchy eyes, runny nose, coughing, headache, and fatigue. The allergies that pop up depends on the time of year and the area of the country you live in. Hot, dry and windy conditions tend to favor these.
- Early Spring - the trees begin to bud. Spring allergies go into full “bloom” as more and more trees and bushes bloom.
- Mid to Late Spring – More trees and grass mowing begins.
- Late Summer and Fall – Grass and weed pollen allergies tend to bein late summer with weeds like Ragweed, and extend through the Fall.
- Go to www.pollen.com - For local pollen counts and what pollens are high – this may help you identify what’s bothering you.

Perennial Allergic Rhinitis
Molds, Dust, Pets: Year round – inside and outside.
The types of allergens that tend to occur year round are not pollen related. They are things like, molds, dust, pet dander and more
Molds can be somewhat seasonal occurring most commonly in the Fall when the leaves fall and the weather is damp. Molds grow best in humid conditions so can occur all year long when the humidity is high. St. Louis is at the convergence of two major rivers which are known to flood so there is lots of mold here.
Eczema
30 million Americans have eczema.

Eczema is a skin rash that often begins in early childhood. It can be mild to severe, localized to generalize. The itch can be so bad that you scratch until the skin bleeds – which makes it worse and leads to further inflammation.
